Unanimously ousted for martial law. Was the removal of President Yoon the ultimate defense of democracy?

On April 4, 2025, the Constitutional Court unanimously upheld the impeachment petition against President Yoon Suk-yeol and declared him removed from office. The Court found that the emergency martial law declared on December 3, 2024 lacked both substantive and procedural requirements, that military and police were deployed to obstruct the National Assembly's right to demand the lifting of martial law, that the proclamation broadly violated citizens' fundamental rights, that a warrantless search and seizure of the National Election Commission was ordered, and that attempts to locate legal professionals infringed upon the independence of the judiciary, constituting grave violations of the Constitution and laws.
